U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) today lauded the inclusion of the wind energy Production Tax Credit (PTC) in the Senate Finance Committee package of tax break renewals and tax extenders.

"The wind energy Production Tax Credit's inclusion in the Finance Committee tax package is a promising first step toward renewing the PTC," said Johnson. "The PTC is critical to ensure continued strong investment in South Dakota's wind farms and wind energy equipment manufacturing plants."

The Senate Finance package would extend the wind energy PTC for 2 years. The PTC expired at the end of 2013.

South Dakota currently has 784 megawatts of wind power online, more than half of which was added since 2010. Approximately 26% of the electricity generated in South Dakota comes from wind, the second highest percentage in the nation.
